Heaven’s greatest battle begins.
An original graphic novel following Raphael, a fallen angel seeking redemption, as he creates four divine warriors to protect humanity from the Fallen Watchers. Explore the world, meet the characters, and witness the beginning of W.A.R.
Our Story
W.A.R. didn’t begin with angels, fallen Watchers, divine crystals, or a war between Heaven and Earth.
It started much smaller.
The original idea for W.A.R. was nothing more than a short, two-page story featuring two characters—Ethan and Ma’knee. There were no Divine Ones. No Dr. Warr. No Azazel. Ethan and Ma’knee were simply a couple going through a breakup.
And for a while, that was all W.A.R. was.
But over time, as I grew more spiritually, something began to change. Random ideas would come to me—characters, concepts, pieces of lore, and different elements of a much larger story. Little by little, those ideas began connecting.
And bit by bit, W.A.R. started becoming W.A.R.
What began as a two-page story about a relationship slowly evolved into a world centered around faith, righteousness, corruption, sacrifice, redemption, angels, humanity, and the ancient consequences of rebellion against God.
Eventually, I had enough pieces to see the bigger picture. The characters had changed. The story had changed. The world had grown far beyond anything I imagined when I drew those original two pages.
I finally had a story I wanted people to experience.
So in 2022, I released W.A.R. — Weapons Against Righteousness on Webtoon.
But even then, W.A.R. wasn’t finished evolving.
As my skills as an artist grew and my vision for the story became clearer, I knew I wanted to go back and give W.A.R. the version I felt it deserved. I eventually removed the original Webtoon and began rebuilding the story from the ground up—redrawing it, refining the world, and transforming it into the graphic novel you see today.
Along the way, that once-small personal project also became a collaborative effort, with William Soares bringing the world to life through color and Lidiane Alves giving its characters their voices through lettering.
When I look at W.A.R. today, it’s almost hard to believe that this entire world started with just two characters going through a breakup.
But that’s part of what makes W.A.R. so special to me.
I didn’t create this world all at once. I grew with it.
Meet the creator
Rico J is the creator, writer, and artist behind W.A.R. — Weapons Against Righteousness.
Art has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. Growing up heavily inspired by animated television, Riccardo originally dreamed of becoming an animator. That path eventually changed when he discovered a new passion—comic books.
The combination of storytelling and illustration gave him a new way to bring the characters and worlds in his imagination to life. That passion ultimately led to the creation of W.A.R., a story that has grown alongside him both creatively and spiritually.
Today, Rico continues to build the world of W.A.R. while pursuing his goal of making a career doing what he’s loved since childhood—telling stories through art.
